ScreenTale 0.26.0
ScreenTale 0.26.0 makes audio from new clips easier to review when a microphone and system sound are recorded together.
- New ScreenTale recordings with both Microphone and System Audio start with System Audio muted in the clip. Both original audio files remain available, so you can turn System Audio back on in the Audio inspector. Recordings with only System Audio still play it immediately.
- Raw ScreenTale recordings newly added to a timeline use the same audio default. Existing projects and imported movies keep their saved sound settings.
- Enabling System Audio while Microphone is on now asks you to confirm, since the same sound can be heard twice or echo. You can skip further warnings until you quit the app. If your microphone picks up your speakers, try headphones when recording.
- The Library sidebar now shows the ScreenTale icon and name in its header.
ScreenTale 0.25.0
ScreenTale 0.25.0 adds more control over what viewers see and how quickly your story moves.
- Set camera layouts for selected moments: return to the picture-in-picture bubble, put camera and screen side by side, or let the camera fill the canvas. Adjust framing for each interval without changing the original footage.
- Cover a selected area for a chosen time with an opaque Solid Cover or a Blur. Solid Cover is the safer choice for sensitive details; review the full export because regions do not track moving content, and project files still contain the original media.
- Review suggested long pauses in Audio, hear each original and shortened version, then apply selected cuts across the whole timeline in one undoable step. Source recordings remain intact.
- Generate subtitles from edited audio using an on-device Whisper model or an external HTTPS provider that you configure. External recognition sends only the selected edited audio after confirmation. Review and edit the draft before using it, then burn captions into video or save an SRT file.
Projects saved with this version can contain privacy regions and subtitles that older versions cannot read. Keep a copy before opening an existing project if you may need to return to an older ScreenTale version.
ScreenTale 0.21.2
ScreenTale 0.21.2 gives the timeline more room and adds practical audio-level guidance.
- Library now sits beside Preview, with Timeline spanning the workspace below both panes. Inspector remains on the right.
- The timeline toolbar follows your selection and offers Main Video tools when nothing is selected. Import, Add zoom, Add annotation and camera visibility stay easy to reach; narrow windows use compact icons and an editing popover. Magnet has a clearer on/off state and remembers your choice.
- Split has a dropdown with aligned shortcut hints. Defaults are Command-B for Split, Command-Q for Split and Delete Left, and Command-E for Split and Delete Right. Export moves to Shift-Command-E and Quit to Option-Command-Q. Existing custom bindings that conflict with fixed app commands stay saved but inactive; Settings explains how to reassign or reset them.
- Microphone and System Audio share one waveform strip with consistent dBFS guides. Turn on Distinguish audio sources in Audio Inspector to overlay the sources in different colors without adding rows for silence.
- Output Loudness measures the full edit and suggests a reversible All Audio adjustment toward -16 LUFS, respecting peak and gain limits. Visual edits such as Crop no longer restart audio analysis.
- Continue Recording prepares the original source for another take in the same project. Record Audio captures a microphone take at the playhead with synchronized Preview and Pause/Resume controls. Both entry points are in the timeline’s Record menu.
ScreenTale 0.18.0
ScreenTale 0.18.0 makes adding videos to the timeline simpler.
- Use Add > Import Video for both main footage and video overlays. ScreenTale chooses the placement from the playhead: overlay existing footage, insert between Main Video clips, or append after the last clip.
- Drag a recording from Library into the timeline to import it. A translucent preview shows its duration and destination, including a new overlay row or the space opened between clips.
- Import ScreenTale recordings directly through the file picker, alongside regular movie files.
- Importing at fractional clip boundaries now correctly inserts or appends after seeking, scrubbing, or changing clip speed.
ScreenTale 0.17.0
ScreenTale 0.17.0 adds independent recording copies and improves Library editing on Mac.
- Choose Duplicate in the Editor header or a recording’s Library context menu to create a separate copy with its media and edits. The copy opens in a new Editor, while the original keeps its edits and Undo history.
- Moving a recording to Trash keeps the Editor open and selects the next available recording below it in Library, falling back to the previous one. When none remains in the displayed list, Library stays open in an empty Editor.
- Delete and Fn-Delete on a selected recording in Library open the same Trash confirmation. Text fields keep normal text deletion, and recordings hidden by search or collapsed Recents cannot receive Library Delete.
- Area capture highlights only the selected rectangle, without also highlighting the entire display or dimming other displays.
