ScreenTale 1.18.2
ScreenTale 1.18.2 keeps the Editor working when a video frame fails to load and adds faster cutting on the Timeline.
- Preview, the Timeline and the Inspector now recover on their own from a video frame that fails to load, including while you play or drag the playhead back and forth. The last image stays on screen while ScreenTale tries again, and a message appears only if the problem lasts. A missing or changed file is reported right away.
- Pressing Retry in Preview now reloads the video and shows that it is working.
- Timeline thumbnails, hover previews and waveforms try again without needing you to move the pointer or scroll.
- The Zoom navigator stays in place during playback and scrubbing instead of reporting that the source preview is unavailable. It can be edited again when the playhead stops.
- With a clip selected on the Timeline, press Q or E to split at the playhead and delete the left or right side. Drag a clip’s edge to reveal more of its source.
ScreenTale 1.17.0
ScreenTale 1.17.0 makes it safer to edit a recording and lets you export just the part you need.
- Reset to Original in the Editor’s project menu removes every edit and brings back the full recording. Your recorded media was never changed by editing or Save, so a Save you did not mean to make no longer leaves you stuck with those edits. Undo brings them back until you save again.
- Save As is now available from the File menu and with Shift-Command-S, so you can keep several edited versions of a recording.
- Select clips on the Timeline, open Export and choose Selected clips under Range to export only that part. The save dialog now suggests your project’s name.
- With an active license or trial, the Export sheet now shows Export Video instead of Export with Watermark.
- A renamed project now keeps its new name in Library after you switch to another recording.
ScreenTale 1.16.0
ScreenTale 1.16.0 lets you leave the menu bar and the Dock out of your recordings.
- Turn off Record the menu bar or Record the Dock in the recording bar’s Options menu, or set them as defaults in Settings > Recording. A full-screen recording then shrinks to the area between the menu bar and the Dock, and the selection frame on screen shrinks with it and dims the parts that will be left out, so you can see exactly what will be recorded.
- In an Area recording that overlaps them, the menu bar and the Dock are removed and whatever is behind them, usually your wallpaper, is recorded instead.
- Both options start on, so your recordings look the same as before until you change them, and ScreenTale remembers your choice. One Window and Entire App recordings are unchanged.
ScreenTale 1.15.3
ScreenTale 1.15.3 makes USB and wireless microphones record, shows the camera preview at its real brightness, and gives clearer feedback while you sign in.
- USB and wireless microphone receivers that send integer audio, such as the DJI Wireless Mic Rx, now record. Before, they appeared in the microphone list but the recording had no microphone sound.
- The floating camera preview now matches the brightness you see in Photo Booth or FaceTime. It was shown much darker than the camera actually recorded; recordings and exports were not affected.
- Log In in Settings now shows “Opening Browser…” while your browser opens, and Settings shows “Finishing sign-in…” after you return to ScreenTale, so a slow network no longer looks like nothing happened.
ScreenTale 1.15.0
ScreenTale 1.15.0 lets the camera fade in and out when a clip shows or hides it, lets a Spotlight sit beside its Arrow instead of underneath it, and makes the Timeline easier to work with.
- Showing or hiding the camera for a Camera clip now fades smoothly instead of cutting. Select the clip and use Show/hide fade in the Camera Inspector to choose how long the fade lasts, or set it to zero for a hard cut. Neighbouring clips that are both shown or both hidden no longer flicker at their boundary, and a fade keeps the outgoing layout on screen until it finishes.
- A Spotlight no longer has to sit underneath its Arrow. Drag the Spotlight in the preview to move only the bright area; the Arrow keeps pointing at the same spot. You can also use Horizontal shift and Vertical shift, Place beside arrowhead to put the bright area just past the Arrow head, or Centre on arrowhead to put it back.
- Command-scroll and trackpad pinch now zoom the Timeline around the pointer, like Option-scroll, and wheel zoom follows your Natural scrolling setting.
- A Zoom or annotation added while the Timeline is zoomed out is wide enough to see and grab, and is scrolled into view and highlighted.
- Camera clips show their layout on the Timeline, and hidden camera footage appears in grey with a camera-off icon. The Show/Hide camera toolbar button is gone; select a Camera clip and use Show camera in the Inspector instead.
