ScreenTale 0.10.1 makes video timelines easier to scan and navigate.

• Main Video, Camera, and imported Video Overlay clips now show continuous filmstrips of representative source frames directly in the timeline.
• Filmstrips follow each clip’s trim, split, paste, reorder, source replacement, and playback speed, so the visible frames stay aligned with the footage being edited.
• Video rows provide more room for the new frames while keeping labels, selection borders, and attached audio waveforms legible.
• Thumbnail generation stays out of the playback and export paths, pauses during active editing and playback, and limits work to visible timeline content.

Existing projects open without migration, and filmstrips do not modify source media or project files.

ScreenTale 0.9.2 expands timeline editing and media composition.

• Import local videos, audio, and other ScreenTale recordings. Add video overlays, replace footage, or bring in a recording’s saved edit as a rendered clip.
• New timelines keep sound attached to its video. Use Extract Audio to edit sound independently, with separate controls for system audio and microphone.
• Select Video, Zoom, and Annotation blocks together with Command-click or a selection rectangle. Delete the selection in one step, or use Command-C and Command-V to paste it at the playhead in the same project—including an opening excerpt or trailer.
• Splitting Video keeps continuous Zoom and Annotation blocks intact. Pasted effects can be edited independently, and conflicting Camera placements are rejected without cutting existing clips.
• The timeline starts at a consistent 360-point height. Upgrade Timeline creates a copy of an older timeline with the new audio and layer behavior for review.
• Keyboard overlays and shortcut menus use the correct macOS key symbols. Zoom framing now matches preview and export for imported footage with a different aspect ratio, and pasting retained imported media after reopening a project restores its preview correctly.

Projects saved by this version use a newer format that older releases cannot open. Keep a separate copy before saving if you need to return to an older app version.

• Upgrade directly from Video Editor using the new purple button beside Export. The controls adapt to narrow Inspector widths.
• Choose an optional 14-day watermark-free trial when opening an eligible installation for the first time, or continue using ScreenTale Free.
• Trial and purchase actions open License settings so the activation field and next steps are ready when you return from checkout.
• License settings now explain that vouchers and discount codes are applied during checkout, not in the license-key field.

Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later on Apple Silicon. Existing recordings and license activations are preserved.

Attention Annotations

• Add timed Arrows, Text, Highlights, and Spotlights without changing the original recording. Combine components around one shared target.
• Choose visual shape and text presets, including light and dark Callout boxes with a pointed tail. Arrows animate from their tail toward the target.
• Attach annotations to Video so they follow clip edits, crop, and Zoom, or to Canvas for fixed output placement.
• Place targets, text, and arrow tails directly in Preview with hand cursors and hover feedback. Dragging updates Preview efficiently and creates one Undo step on release.
• Add Quick Annotations at the live cursor during recording, using the recording bar, menu, or Option-Command-A. Cues remain recoverable after an interrupted recording.

Improvements and fixes

• Customize playback, timeline, inspector, and recording shortcuts in Settings, with conflict warnings and reset controls.
• Keep selected annotation guides hidden outside the scene’s time range and during playback.
• Restore cursor and keystroke preview correctly when reopening projects whose Quick Annotation cues have already been processed.
• Preserve increasing update build numbers after squash merges.
• Improve recording actions from the Editor, editor layout, and camera startup.

Recording, editing, and export stay on your Mac. The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, Apple notarized, and stapled.

Cursor alignment

• Fix cursor, click, and scroll positions in new Retina window recordings. The pointer now stays aligned with the recorded interface when editing on another display or exporting at a different resolution.
• Preserve alignment when a captured window moves between Retina and standard-density displays.
• Previously recorded projects are preserved. This update does not automatically repair coordinates already stored by the affected recorder.

Timeline improvements

• Keep the final recorded image visible at the end of the timeline and prevent audio rounding from creating a tiny extra Audio block.
• Deleting a Video interval now cuts the same time from Camera and Audio and moves the remaining media together. Undo restores the edit.
• Select all media with Command-A or drag a selection rectangle across timeline lanes. Zoom and Keystroke effects remain separate from media selection.
• Improve keyboard focus so timeline shortcuts reach the selected media after clicking the timeline.
